  20. If you want a great DXF translator, get the one written by Autodesk.
  21. They give it away, it's freely distributable.  It requires a souped-up
  22. PC.  It converts DXF to 3D Studio files.  It works very, very well. 
  23. LightWave loads 3D Studio files reasonably well - everything comes
  24. through as a single object, but that's OK for many people.

  26. If you want an even better conversion from .3DS files to LightWave
  27. scenes complete with sub-objects, use InterChange Plus with the
  28. add-on 3D Studio Converter.  This lets you preserve the sub-objects,
  29. rotational centers, etc.

  39. The ACAD Translator was made by Access Technologies.  I believe they
  40. went out of business several years ago.
